Seasons change with a touch of Winter Swag style from South Africa as our CEO Arne Schreuder interviews and chats to our newest MOLLMAG SOUTH AFRICA MOLLBABE model that’s making her debut feature in our August 2019 issue with Jessica Jan alongside photographer Eduard Labuschange from ModelConnectRSA
Very warm welcome Jessica, give us a short intro on how your love and passion for modeling started?
I was actually very shy when I was younger and would prefer being the person taking the photo, instead of being in the photo itself. As I got older, I started to appreciate photography more and decided to push myself out of my comfort zone.
So, I started doing various photo shoots, including a shoot when I was a part of a model agency and collaborations with photographers and in doing so, realized that it was something that I enjoyed!
“It has become a way of expressing myself and has boosted my confidence, while growing my love for photography itself.”
I feel that photography is a powerful art form. It captures moments that will never be experienced again, preserving them so that they are never lost. It’s a bonus that it is also a lot of fun!
Photographer Eduard from ModelConnectRSA congrats on yet another amazing editorial done for us for the 2019 August issue… give us your interpretation of model Jessica, what makes her a so unique face, beauty and look?
It’s great to be back for another feature…To be honest I don’t even know where to begin when It comes to Jess,
what an absolute awesome person she is super smart with great goals set for herself. But not to bore you with jibber jabber just look at the incredible work she does in front of the lens,
“This was an absolute pleasure to shoot with her.”
Back to you Jessica… What is it about the Winter season and winter fashion styles of South Africa that stands out for you the most as a model this year?
I feel that although trends come and go and are definitely influential, South African fashion has a unique flavor of its own. People aren’t afraid to express their individuality with their fashion style and so I see a lot of different tastes every year.
For me personally, forest green, deep shades of red and bold prints have really stood out this year. I have loved teaming these up with chunky scarves, lace up boots and dark nails!
Being “Proudly South African” Jessica, explain to us what does that mean to you personally?
I am fortunate to have grown up in a country rich in such cultural and linguistic diversity, where both tradition and individuality are celebrated.
Surrounded by so many different people, cultural norms and expressions, languages, music and a variety of foods, the South African experience and way of living is something to truly to be proud of!
Jessica share with us… the funniest rumor you’ve heard about yourself, may it be back in your school years, college/uni or recently…it’s time to let it out?
As a kid I always had my nose in the books. From Roald Dahl to physics and astronomy, I loved reading and would take out books every week at the local library.
One of my friends in my circle had started a rumor that I was a complete nerd…the funniest thing about this rumor? … It’s true! (laughing).
What or whom inspires you in life Jessica and why?
So many people have inspired me in different ways, for which I am truly grateful. Although, my biggest inspiration has been my mom. She has shown me what strength looks like and taught me to never give up…“I always aim to lead by her example.”
Best advice you’ve ever been given thus far in life Jessica, please share?
“Knowledge is power and is something that can never be taken away from you.”
Whether the knowledge is sourced from academia, people or life lessons, there is always something to learn.
